I think you are missing the point. Tri has always stated the Blob will come and welcomed it, hell even the post you are quoting states it wasn't a surprise.
It's the node crashing/massive lag monster blobs that Tri is complaining about. That tactic may "win" the war but everyone loses because no one is able to play the game.
I don't think anyone likes the server issues, EVE really handles mass combat very poorly and is not designed well to pull it off.
Poor server conditions does not allow NC to adequately take advantage of their numerical superiority. I am sure they would love nothing more than a lag free server.
While the post I quoted wasn't whining about the NC and numbers, in general the Tri forum warriors do nothing but whine about it. I just wanted to raise that point and it was one of the rare Tri posts that wasn't a flat out whine about numbers, lag and napfests.

I have 20 characters in about 10 different corps, which one should I post with? ;)
The point is that gamebreaking server lag isn't an unfortunate side-effect of the NC strategy: it's the primary focus of the NC strategy. They deliberately bring that many because it breaks the server. Tri have proved time and again that they're willing to engage superior numbers, but doing that requires that the server be responsive enough to allow pilot and player skill to matter. NC FCs have shown time and again that even 2:1 superiority isn't enough for them to engage unless they also have lag. The critical point seems to be around 2.5-3:1 - with more than 3:1, they'll engage. With less, there's a chance. Below 2.5:1 they'll usually withdraw.
The disappointment with KIA is that they should choose to align with such people. The kind of people who watch 300 and say "I would totally join in on the Persian side!"
Once again. It was quite well known how NC fights before you attacked it's weakest member (already that is kinda lame as everyone and their mother knows that tri is far better than hydra). If you don't want lag attack someone who is good enough that they don't need server breaking numbers to fight you. But I guess it's harder to pad stats against that kind of oponent.

Who then?
Nearly every space holding alliance has some pact with others to defend space, and lots of them won't fight unless you make a move on their space which then brings the blob. Give me a list of alliances and we'll work through them shall we? End of the day we took out Hydra because they were weak and close to empire and provided the space to get fights we knew the blob would come but we didn't expect them to hang about as we've already broken sov 4 so they are arriving late. All the while the GBC is in Deklein killing off IRON....
That is a good question. I guess that you could attack AAA, TCF or someone like that. I doubt that they would call in allies as both should be more than able to defend their space and probably want fights. Of course both are far harder to crack than hydra. Other than that perhaps some of the "mercenary" outfits would work too. Basically hit someone who should be close to you in strength and besides I dobut that you guys are that interested in holding space so just getting good fights should be good enough. :)

You sir are a moron...you think a 600 man alliance (which is what Tri was when this started) should attack alliances like AAA with thousands of players...and ummmm 12 titans....or tcf who roll with goons...because goons never ever blob up...not to mention several tcf titans...
-Wes's alt...
Both AAA and TCF would probably not ask for help (I guess that goons could show up if they are bored though but that's like having BoB close by coming for a visit like already happened). And what ever you say there is far less of them than there is of NC so it should result in less lag. But I also said that they would hardly be a nice soft target like hydra was.
It's probably hard to find a soft target that doesn't have a lot of friends. They don't seem to last that long for some reason.
